Trace Adkins’ New Album Due in August

Trace Adkins will embark on a new era in his career on August 17, when he releases ‘Cowboy’s Back in Town,’ his first album for Show Dog-Universal Music, the label headed by Toby Keith and producer/songwriter Mark Wright. Trace co-produced the CD with Kenny Beard and Michael Knox.

The title track, which he co-wrote with Kenny Beard and Jeff Bates, makes good on a statement Trace made in February of this year after Toby announced Trace would be joining the label. “Signing with [Show Dog-Universal] really spurred me creatively and I’ve already written a couple things that might be on the new album. I’ve let my songwriting go for a while, and I’m excited about getting back to that part of my career.”

Trace combines his usual serious material with upbeat and slightly off-kilter tunes on the new disc — the tender ballad, ‘Still Love You’ juxtaposed with the uproarious ‘Hold My Beer.’ Fellow Show Dog-Universal artists Trailer Choir join Trace on ‘Don’t Mind If I Don’t,’ a song using love as the perfect excuse to relax and take it easy. Other intriguing titles that seem to fit right into a Trace Adkins release: ‘Whoop a Man’s Ass,’ ‘Brown Chicken Brown Cow’ and ‘Ala-Freakin-Bama.’ Balancing these out are titles that lean toward romance, including ‘A Little Bit of Missing You ‘ and ‘Break Her Fall.’

“Touring with Toby last year changed my career,” Trace tells The Boot. “I got to see first hand that Toby and his organization place a premium on having fun and since that’s what I got in this business for in the first place, this feels like the right place to be.”

Trace adds, “There’s an excitement surrounding this whole new chapter in our lives and it’s reflected in the work I’ve done on this record. The musicians I brought together are long-time friends, and it doesn’t get much better than that. I had a great time making it, I’m in a great spot creatively, and I think all that shows in the way it sounds.”

In addition to the traditional release of ‘Cowboy’s Back In Town,’ a deluxe version featuring four additional tracks will also be available on August 17. One of these tracks is Trace’s duet with Blake Shelton, ‘Hillbilly Bone.’ The first single from the new album is ‘This Ain’t No Love Song.’

Trace and Toby had so much fun on their highly successful America’s Toughest tour in 2009, they decided to do it again this year. After a series of dates including the Fourth of July celebration, ‘Let Freedom Sing,’ along the riverfront in downtown Nashville, Trace will join Toby on the rest of the American Ride tour beginning July 10 in Raleigh, N.C. The trek will include a number of amphitheaters across the U.S. and Canada as well as some arena dates.
